For the Record
Chapter 3: Meeting Elliana
Anne B. Walsh

I made my way down the river the next morning, mulling over the peculiarities of the Luxians. Cara hadn’t understood my question about the various gestures the women had used when talking about nightwalkers. “Of course they ward off evil differently,” she’d said, looking at me oddly. “Everyone finds her own wardings, and improves them over the course of her life. It’s what life is for.”

Hmmm...interesting,

Hmmm...interesting, certainly. The abruptness of Elli's departure indicates a rather large chip...still, she should have been nicer to poor Jack :-(. I'm eager for more.

Heh.

Well, there's some explained and yet more made mysterious. Nice balance generally, though the ending is a little jarring. I expect it wouldn't be quite as much with more to go on to, and at least it does make one want to read more.

But if they don't have anyone

elven_hobbit — May 29, 2009 - 3:51pm

But if they don't have anyone teaching them what's right and wrong, how will the kids know what to do when the time comes? Once again, great chapter. I just figured I'd add my guess as to where this is going. Update soon!

Morality's what he's missing

GrimSqueaker — May 29, 2009 - 12:19pm

Morality's what he's missing isn't it, dear...

Heh. Wonder where this is going... looks like it's getting interesting and, maybe, a little political.

Confused

chaoschild — May 29, 2009 - 6:00am

Well, I remain confused. Of course, that makes me interested, which is good for you. Then again I expected nothing less of one of your fabulous stories.

:D

Kudos on the excellent chapter and much thanks and love for the speedy updates and the sharing of your gift.

I'm confused. Elli seemed nice during the conversation, but what happened in the last two paragraphs? Not so nice anymore.
I still don't know where you are taking us with this story. But I can say I like it, and can't wait to read the next chapter. Maybe then things are starting to make more sense

OK…

NotACat — May 28, 2009 - 10:38pm

I think that I'm about as confused as Recorder Jack at this point. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I am intrigued as to where the children come from if the men are discouraged quite so strenuously, or maybe that isn't all the women doing that.

Are we to assume, from what Elli's not quite telling us, that the Murcani clans are much more cooperative than the Luxians? Why doesn't she go and live with them?

Oh, red button territory… Why does Elli, even though she knows that Jack is from off-world and is trying to find out what is going on, call him "dumb" when he doesn't know stuff? I hate it when people do that, and I was wanting to like her.
