So You Want the Dangerverse Finished Soon?

Anne B. Walsh — May 17, 2009 - 3:06am

Support the Thousand Book Challenge, with your presence and with... ahem... other things... and it’s more likely to happen!

This may seem greedy or mercenary of me, but let me explain. I spend about seven hours of every workday sitting at my desk doing nothing (my job consists of a half-hour’s work every morning and a few minutes’ worth every twenty minutes thereafter). I’m basically training myself to sit at a computer, hour after hour, day after day, and not write.

Writing on company time, you see, is absolutely forbidden. If I do it anyway, I had to sign a paper when I agreed to work there that says the company automatically reaps the rewards of whatever I write. (I’ve done some fan fiction chapters at work—think they want my reviews?)

My point is, the sooner I get away from this job, the better. The sooner I even feel like there is a chance of getting away from this job, the better. The sooner I can get anything which relieves the weird and atypical stress of this job, the better. Which brings me to my great current desire.

I want a cat.

Now, to get a cat, I need to be able to pay its vet bills. I need to be able to pay for its food and litter. And I need to be able to give my landlord a deposit to get the carpets cleaned after I leave. Without these three things, I cannot have a cat.

Once again, I’m not being mercenary here, I’m simply laying out the facts of life. A cat requires certain things to live. However, a cat would make me happier, and that would allow me to write more often, making my readers happier. To my way of thinking, everyone wins.

Let’s see if my way of thinking is also yours. I estimate that I would need between fifty and a hundred people buying credits here at TBC to get my cat. If and when C-Day (the day when I can get my cat) comes to pass, I pledge that I will immediately write a new chapter of Facing Danger, if I have to call off work the next day to do it!

To clarify, there may or may not be a new chapter of Facing Danger before C-Day. I’m not holding my fanfic hostage to my originals. If I get inspired for FD before C-Day comes, I’ll write it, just like always.

But if C-Day comes and goes, and more people keep signing on here at TBC... well, we just might be able to negotiate ourselves a little deal. Say, a chapter of FD every two weeks or so, guaranteed, along with similar timetables for the TBC stories...

No promises on that one yet, though. Let’s see how this whole cat thing works out first. Thanks for reading, I hope I don’t come off like a dirty money-grubber, and here’s to my future cat, Nuisance, wherever he may be right now!

Anne this makes me giggle hard. If I could I'd give you the cat at my house but thankfully its not mine. (not a cat person here)

I promise to buy more credits as soon as my bank has fixed my account. (if not by the next time I get paid I plan on getting a visa prepaid credit card cause there are things I need to buy that are only online).

Lack of Money

LizzieH (not verified) — May 26, 2009 - 4:40am

I would love to give you some money to keep writing but I am a teenager with no source of income.

Nuisance is lovely name for a cat especially for one for which you have to go to all this trouble.

Cats are wonderful pets and great companions and i would just like to reiterate a previous that you must keep your cat away from busy roads especially when it is a kitten.

Happy writing and I hope you get a better job soon.

Cash and Cats

You don't come off evil. You come off as trying to make a living off your writing, or at least a catting, which is admirable.

I will try and convince my parents to let me get credits here. It's actually highly possible that they will. Especially if they think they can use it to bribe me to do well in my studies.

On the subject of cats. I applaud your decision. Cats are the best pets and Nuisance is an awesome name for one. Just be careful about where you let said pretty kitty roam. Two of my past cats have been killed on main roads, one just a couple of weeks ago.

So good luck in both your fund-raising and cat finding endeavors.

Much love

I promise you, if I had a credit card I would most certainly be sending a few dollars your way. Unfortunatly, in the state of our current economy, it is a bad idea for me to apply for a credit card (especially when I'm only 17 and my parents pay for everything). Nonetheless I wish you luck in raising the funds to get your cat and hopefully away from that time consuming job you despise so much.

Credit card

A checking account comes with a credit card backed by visa or mastercard. Also Paypal will take checking accounts by themselves (if I remeber correctly)
