For the Record
A Recorder is a man or woman who travels from world to world within the hundred-planet League of Laxis to make official note of events. If it's not Recorded, then it's not real, Laxans say. Recorders can't be threatened or bribed, and they don't lie. I should know. My name's Jack Murtland, and I've been a Recorder for fifteen years.
A bit more than halfway through that span, I was summoned to the world of Vychem. When I left, I had two companions I didn’t when I arrived. One was a person, the other a secret.
Recorders don’t lie. But they do have to choose which truth to tell.
This is the story of the choices I made.

Scott MWell, there's some explained and yet more made mysterious. Nice balance generally, though the ending is a little jarring. I expect it wouldn't be quite as much with more to go on to, and at least it does make one want to read more.
